5 Really Easy to Make Homemade Snacks

For snacks many people turn to packaged crackers, granola bars, sweetened yogurt. Unfortunately these snack foods can be very nutritionally-deficient. Nutritious snacks are just as important as your meals on a daily basis.

I am not referring to the occasional treat but the foods that contribute to your caloric intake on a regular basis. To keep your blood sugar on an even keel throughout the day it is recommended to eat every 3-4 hours (2 ½-3 hours if you are diabetic). In between those meals a nutrient dense snack that will hold you over till your next meal is optimal.

Preparing your snacks can be quite simple. Choose 5 healthy snacks that you prepare on the weekend, make large batches and divide into portion sizes such as: Raw nuts + dried fruit, Plain Greek yogurt + stevia + vanilla extract + berries, Apple + nut butter, Hummus + raw veggies, Homemade energy bars (easier than you think).

Living a healthier lifestyle means less processed foods and more home cooked meals and snacks. Getting back to preparing your own foods so to rely less on already prepared foods is very foreign to many Americans.

Food preparation is the second step to a healthier lifestyle next to the first step which is planning your food. Email me if you would like the homemade energy bar recipe which is my way of thanking you for reading my blog.
